Designed for the opening of the On flagship store in Tokyo, the machine tells the story of their apparel textiles in a tactile and interactive way. The machine shows the technical properties of the fabrics; the ultra light weight but wind stopping fabric, the breathable mesh as well as the water repellent textile. The customer is encouraged to engage with the machine through a user interface consisting of buttons to start the fans behind the two top panels and the water system on the bottom one. They are also encouraged to interact further and by a screen printed graphic that says “please touch“ on the top two textiles. This way they can feel first hand how well the ultra light weight textile blocks the wind and how well the mesh breathes. The water repellent fabric has been illuminated from behind to further enhance the water droplets forming on its surface.
